Committed to the latest in safety guidance

At ABCO Tyres, we’re committed to adhering to all the latest safety guidance. The law is changing as the world changes but our customers’ safety is always essential and core to our business.

Recently the UK Government issued a ban on tyres that are more than 10 years old being fitted to the front wheels of lorries, buses, coaches, as well as all wheels of minibuses. The law comes into force in the autumn of 2020 but we are already taking action to ensure we’re compliant ahead of the change.

Government announces heavy vehicle old tyre ban

Last week, the government announced a ban on older tyres being fitted on lorries, buses and coaches. The ban will make it illegal to fit tyres aged 10 years or older to the front wheels of lorries, buses and coaches, and all wheels of minibuses. The measures will also apply to re-treaded tyres – with the date of re-treading to be marked – making the age of the tyre clearly visible. The Traffic Commissioners for Great Britain welcome this move. They would urge all operators to review their tyre management systems before the ban comes into force in the autumn. Operators should also look out for further information on tyre marking and an update to the categorisation of defects in due course. Read the government’s announcement about banning older tyres
